Auto body repair & detailing - Clear Coat

Expert: Bob - 7/23/2009

Question
How do I tell if my clear cut is chipping?  The guy who details my car say it is the clear coat, but the accura dealership says it's not because it would be black underneath (my car is dark grey).  My car was 3 yrs old when I purchased it so, the dealership says that the previous owner must have recked it.  How do I tell?

Answer
This is a job for the body shop. If the detailer is reputable I would lean toward them. But the dealer has a stake in this also. If the paint is going bad and is can be proven that there was no body damage or repainting then Acura might have a warranty problem.

Get at least two more opinions from reputable body shops and make your decision.

Hope this helps,

Bob
