My 1991 Cadillac DeVille has a wheel that makes a rattling noise; sounds like it's ready to fall off. When parked I use the hands on 9 and 3oclock positions and there is side to side play.Is this a job for a pro or can I do it?(I have some mechanical aptitude)
Answer David, Before you take anything apart have an assistant shake the wheel while you look for the movement. If it's the rear wheel use your jack to just lift the wheel off the ground and shake and look. If only wheel moves it is probably the hub and bearings. Remove wheel, support car with a safety stand, remove brake caliper, tie off with wire out of the way, remove rotor set aside. working thought the opening in the hub with a socket wrench take off the 4 bolts the hub should pull off ,compare with new one, install in reverse order. DO NOT touch brake pedal while wheel is off .Get a chilton manual for torque specs. HTHY Bill Tuma
