Auto body repair & detailing/Paint and clear coat

Question
Hello Michael, I wish to repaint the roof and hood of my 97 ford pickup. My question is that the clear and base coats are well worn, I do not want to apply a clear coat if I don't need to  do they still sell paint that has a gloss to or do you have to use a clear coat. My truck is black (original paint) and takes a beating here in Florida
Thanks Chris

Answer
Chris....by the description of the hood it sounds like the hood will have to be stripped down to bare metal.Painting over the existing finish will result in a mess.

After the necessary prep si done there are single stage paints available to spray but they can be difficult to apply.
