Auto body repair & detailing/Clear coat discoloration

Question
I recently purchased a 2007 Chevy Silverado. I noticed that one of the side body moldings was coming loose and decided that I would just take them off and "shave" the sides of the truck...thought it would look better anyway. The truck is white and when I removed the molding that was coming off I noticed the paint underneath was slightly discolored (light yellow). I would really like to take the rest of the moldings off but I can't seem to clean or buff out this discoloration. Any suggestions?

Thank You,

Dan.

Answer
Daniel,

Though I am not en expert on paint, I will tell you that the discoloration is most likely that clearcoat is going bad. It has turned yellow because it was beneath the molding unprotected and exposed to moisture and dirty without properly drying. My guess is that it would have to be repainted or new molding installed.

I hope this helps,
