Auto body repair & detailing/paint

Question
My son taped off a scratch he was trying to repair with regular blue paint tape and when I peeled the tape off you can see exactly where the tape was.  It is clear and shiny compared to the rest of the vehicle.  What happened?

Answer
Hi Chad!...Without seeing the vehicle, and from your description of what happened, in my opinion, it sounds like the panel your son was repairing, has already been "re-cleared"..But not properly..If it was done properly, there is no chance that having tape applied to it, and removed, should result in this condition..Hence being shiny underneath...See if you can see any signs of sanding where the tape was removed...If not, this is a clear indication that this is what has happened...Hope this is of some help...Please write back if you have any more questions or concerns....Thanks....Dave
