Question
Wife backed Yukon into cement pillar smashing in rear bumper and denting/buckling rear quarter panel.  Can replace bumper but need advice on pulling out small to medium sized dent in rear quarter panel (either from interior or from exterior?).  Thanks.

Hi Hank! Unfortunatly without actually seeing the total damage, I can't give you a 100% accurate assessment. BUT.......here are some basic things to check out. If it was backed into a cement pillar to the extent that it buckled the quarter panel, check the gap between the quarter and rear door. If it is even, then there should  be no frame damage, ( being shortened, kicked up or kicked down ),  other than possibly on the frame rail ends, as you indicated the bumper needs replacing. If this is not the case, ( gap is uneven , closed up, or tight on the top or bottom ), then please contact me back.....As for the dent, my personal preference would be to remove the interior trim panel to gain access to it. There will be an inner structure you will see. You might have limited access though, depending on where the dent is located, the design of the structure, rear heater/ac unit, etc.......The other method, would be to use a Uni-spotter. This is obviously done from the outside. If you are not familiar with this unit, it welds on a stud in which you attatch a slide hammer to pull out the dent. I would recommend removing the interior trim panel with this method also, as most vehicles have injected foam, foam padding, seam sealers, etc. which can catch fire if a stud is welded on top of them. This unit will cost around 300 to 500 dollars CDN....An inexpensive way, would be to try a suction cup. This should get a good portion of it out, again, depending on the severety....Any more questions, please do not hesitate to ask......Thanks..........Dave
