Auto body repair & detailing/Inner door panel removal

Question
I have a 2011 Kia Sorento that the front passenger door will not open from the outside. (opening from the inside no problem). I need to get inside the the door frame to see the inside of the handle mechanism but cannot get the inner panel off. I've gotten the outside panel off with no problem but the inside metal panel not so lucky. I've taken the 7 or 8 bolts from the outer edge out and was able to get the post at the upper left hand corner out of it's slot but cannot get panel to come off or even out of the way enough to see what's what. Any help you could provide with regards to this issue would be greatly appreciated. I don't know if the window should be up/down if there is anything else that needs to be removed, I'm just sort of stuck. THANK YOU for any assistance you might be able to provide.

Answer
Hi Mike....From the description of what you are finding once taking the interior door trim panel off, is what is commonly referred to as a door "module". These are getting more and more common on late/new model vehicles. In fact, everything inside the door is connected to these modules. What you will first need to do, is to disconnect the door glass. There will/should be either 1 or 2 access holes, where you can do this. Once you locate these holes, simply roll the window down to where you see the bolts that attach the glass to the window regulator, and remove them. Once this is done, grab the glass, and slide it completely up into the door frame, and securely tape it into place. Next, you will need to remove the 2 or 3 screws that hold the door latch into place. Lastly, there should also be an access hole where you can disconnect the linkage rods for the outer door handle to the latch. The module should now be able to be removed....If you run into any problems, please feel free to drop me another line. I will try and help you out further....Thanks....Dave.
