Question
This morning as I was getting out of my co-worker's car at work, I hit the door of another co-worker's car. There's a little scratch on the side that is noticeable. I'm taking responsiblity for it, but I was told that the whole door has to be taken off to be fixed as well as painted, and this is spot is no bigger than a nickel maybe a quarter. It's a 2005 Chevy Impala. Is there a way for this to be fixed without it costing me an arm and leg?

Answer
The door won't need removed, but The door handle and weather strips must be removed for the job to be properly done. Chances are, at least one other panel will need blended into for a proper paint match, depending upon where the scratch is, and what color the car is. If it's another door, then that door must also have the handle and weather strips trmoved. It's a nearly brand new car, so no short cuts are justified. I commend you for your honesty. Expect to pay no less than 350 bucks for the work, it could be more. Hopefully, the next person that bumps YOUR car will be as honest as you are, and fufill their obligation for their negligence, without a big fuss. Thats whats called karma. Do this good thing, and I promise you, it will come back to you. Hey, you already have my total respect! You are a stand up person. Hope this helps. Bill
