Auto body repair & detailing/Hood damage- 2000 Honda Civic LX-4 door

Question
A few weeks ago, on my way to work, I unfortunately hit a dog that ran in front of my car. My hood was dented, not on the top, but head on, on the seam of the hood. A friend told me that that cannot be repaired and that I would have to replace the whole hood. Is this true? If it can be fixed, now much should I expect to pay? If it can't be fixed, how much should I expect to pay to have it replaced? Last question: what should I look at for a good body shop?
Thanks,
Andrew

Answer
Depending on the amount of damage on the underside of the hood it can probably be repaired. The amount of damage also depends on weather or not the hood is repaired or replaced.Where it is damaged also determines if the fenders need to be blended for color match. They will have to be blended if the hood is replaced.Repairing and painting the hood only $500 to$750.Replacing,$750 to $1200.When looking for a good shop look  for one neat in appearance and that offers a warranty. Also word of mouth is good , just ask friends and neighbors.
