Question
Hi Mr. Forester, I started a bug shield the same color of my truck. The man at the paint store said to take a can of bullydog paint adhesion promoter on then basecoat then clearcoat.I followed the directions BUT when i sprayed the base on it did not bond in some places, waited and sprayed the second coat and it ran and lifted some of the first basecoat so i let it dry. Sanded the runs down and it cut down into the plastic of the shield. My question is what to do know prime with just a plain lacquer primer. It has been about of drying time on the basecoat didn't clear.

Answer
Start over, get another bug shield. Don't apply the base so darn heavy, it's not supposed to be applied shiny. Clean the shield first with soap and water, then wax and grease remover. Clean it twice. Let it blanch out overnight, the solvent based cleaner wicks in to the plastic. Sand with a grey scotch brite, then apply adhesion promoter. Follow painting directions on can.  Don't rush, don't over apply paint products of any sort. Bill
