Auto body repair & detailing - cleaning side body mouldings

Expert: Notto Jensen - 12/8/2006

Question
I just purchased a 1999 jeep Cherokee mint condition except for the side body mouldings and the bumpers they have stains that look like water and are dull, what can i do?
Do i have to paint?

Answer
I'm sure you've tried to clean the moldings -- the next simple step would be to try to dress them and see if that will do.  A good trim and tire dressing from your auto parts store could revive them, but if not, painting isn't that tough.  Get some Auto Trim Paint/Bumper Paint in the correct color, and get some good wide masking tape and some masking paper and carefully repaint it in a garage or closed space with no wind/air movement.  It may take a couple of coats.  There are Auto Body experts on this site that could give you more detailed help on this since I handle only Auto Detailing questions.  Happy Holidays!
