car is a 1992 5 series, metallic paint and scratched laquer. Overall the paint is in good condition, apart from what appears to be multitudes of hairline scratching all over the car (almost looks like the car has been in a wind tunnel and sand has been fired at it!). The financial boss (wife)has banned any chance of a re-laquer and so I would like advice on the best way to approach cutting the laquer and re-polishing...products, best tools etc. Here in the uk most readily available products are next to useless for the job

If you lightly wetsand the car with 2000 grit wet or dry sandpaper, soak the sandpaper in warm water with a droip of dish soap to help the sandpaper glide earier, Sand until the scratches blend away and then buff to a reshine with a foam buffing pad on a slow speed buffer with 3m rubbing compound, Then use a swirl mark remover to polish back to a mirror finish.
