Question
Thanks for all your help already, I'm the one helping his kid paint his 66 mustang. We figured out this car originally
had a vinyl top as it had trim at the sides of the roof. We did want to put that part of trim back on ,nor put a vinyl top on, the holes are 3/8". Someone recommended a product called fiber tech which has Kevlar fiber and will fill large holes without much buildup, (less sanding, less waves). Are
you familiar with this product and will a thin patch hold up?

The holes need welded or leaded shut. If you fill the holes with filler, any filler, they will eventually show through the topoat. That comes from hard experience. I had 3/16 inch holes show back through on my GTO within a couple years. This is where experience comes in, and what you learn from staying in 1 dealership for the better part of 15 years. You can see what you did in the past that works, and what failed. I've literally seen cars go from the showroom to the salvage yard. Long after an owner is concerned about appearance, they still want the car to run, doors to open and close, windows to go up and down, etc. It's given me a unique opportunity to watch and see earlier jobs I did, and how they either stand up, or fail the test of time. eventually, everything falls apart, either due to the natural processes of time, or poor workmanship. filling 3/8 holes with bondo is poor workmanship, I don't care how expensive it it, or if it has kevlar micro fibers, Kryptonite, or whatever else in it. I highly suggest that if you  haven't purchased a cheap Mig welder and learned to do basic welding yet, to do so. Learn to weld, and once you do, you will love the endless possibilities for repair and fabrication you will have at you fingertips. Look around the garage, and see how much stuff is made from steel.
