Auto body repair & detailing - paint job on hood

Expert: Mark Haben - 5/21/2007

Question
I bought a 97 Chev. Cav. Convertible that had a small dent in the hood.  We had
a "part-time"auto guy install and paint a new hood.  The color matched great
but it isn't shiny like the rest of the car and everything sticks to the paint--tree
pollen, etc.  It feels rough instead of smooth.  It cost me $650 for the new hood
and paint job. (paint alone was $300) Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Answer
Patty-

It sounds as though he may have used cheap materials or a single stage paint that has not held up to the elements. Try to polish (regular car wax)but remember you are polishing away paint when you do this and there is probably not a lot of paint there to begin with so be careful. If not consult with a reputable shop. Good Luck- Mark
