Auto body repair & detailing/painting: DIY vs paint shop?

Question
i want to paint my 70' chevelle and my 93' caprice classic.

should i go with DIY or go to the paint shop?

if i go to the paint shop then i would like to know approximately how much i should pay for a service.

i hear about 5,000$ from a lot of people but that seems pretty high.

how would you handle this situation and what would i need for a DIY method?

Answer
It really depends on where you live. I am from Upstate Ny and most shops will paint a classic chevelle to showroom condition for around 2200. - 3500.00 depending on condition. 5000.00 is a lot. If you live close, I'll paint your car for a great price. DIY is fine if you do not expect a super finish and can live with any mistakes if you make any. Remember; you can't guarantee your own work!!!
