Auto body repair & detailing/underbody rust protection

Question
Hello Ernie -

I live in Western NY and there's a company here that specializes in rust-protection treatments.  They spray a fine mist of oil onto the car's underside, getting into all the lower nooks and crannies.  Supposedly, this should be repeated each year.  Just wondered if you are familiar with this - and if you think it's worthwhile.

Thank you -  Mark

Answer
Sounds like a waste of money to me.If you keep the car clean and dry you should not see any rust problems for a long time.It is impossible to stop rust from forming but you can take prevenative measures to slow it from occuring. There is a product from 3M that is a wax liquid in an aerosol can that is good for inside of doors and fenders.A good coat of rubberized undercoating in the steel wheel wells will help also.
