AutoCAD/I have problems with some commands taking forever to complete

Question
Hi Bob: I am a novice at CAD. I am an architect using autocad 2000. I have been drawing on autocad for about a year. About a month ago I started having a serious problem with 1 particular drawing. It seems to have coincided when I installed the new Marvin Window program and involves any drawing that I added windows from that program. Typically when I am moving or copying a group of objects I click on the move icon and then put the cursor down and drag a box around those items. Now when I do this as soon as I try to drag the box everything stops and after 1-2 minutes or more I see the box and I click to set my perameters and then again wait. After that I move my objects and usually wait again. If I click individually on each line I am ok. This same problem is happening in copy, match properties etc any time I try to drag a box around anything. I un-installed the Marvin program. Still same problems.
This is awful! Help!

Answer
Carol:
Lets approach this problem for now as a computer problem and not an AutoCAD problem.  First, assuming your using Windows XP, lets delete  everything in the c:\windows\temp folder. Scan your computer for viruses.  Make sure you have to processes running that don't need to.  You can do that by using ADAWARE FREE from Lavasoft.com.  This will find and delete commonly known anti-spyware programs that are put on your computer when you visit websites.  With a couple hundred tracking cookies on your computer, all reporting to their makers via the internet, it can really bog down a computer.  Get those things done and see what happens and let me know.

If this gets it running right, It might be OK to put the Marvin progam back on.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
