Question
QUESTION: I open the program with no problem. Once I am in the program I go to the open in the menu and it gives me a window to select a drawing. I pick in the drop down menu to select a different folder and the program freezes and I have to close it and open Acad again. I have put the disk in and ran fix problems and that did not help. Also outside of Acad Window XP works fine.

ANSWER: George:
This is a problem I have NEVER heard of before.  (and I thought I heard all of them!).  Well, let me start with some questions to you.  Is the folder you selected on your computer, on a floppy, flash drive, CD, or on a network?

Let's keep the dialog going so we can get this solved.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: I tried to open up anything in the program using the drop down ("Look in") menu in the window and it freezes up. I can use the side bar to open folders it works it's only the "Look in" line that freezes Acad2002, outside of cad it works fine.

Answer
Thanks for clarifying that.  So, it's not when you actually select a folder, because you don't quite even get that far before it freezes up.  OK, George.  I'll see what I can come up with.

George!  We might be in luck.  I found this sight that addresses the "Look-in" List box in AutoCAD 2002.  There is a dll file they say you need to download.

Software terminates after Look In drop-down list is selected

Published date: 2002-Nov-06
ID: TS61103

Applies to:
AutoCAD® 2002
AutoCAD LT® 2002
Volo® View 2

Issue

In a standard file selection dialog box, such as the Select File dialog box, you click the arrow for the Look In drop-down list. However, the Look In list is unpopulated (blank). You then do something else, such as click Cancel in the dialog box, and the program terminates.

Solution

This problem occurs in the following circumstances:

After you uninstall another program
If you install the Autodesk product to a folder other than the default folder on a Windows® XP system
After you update the Autodesk product
To resolve the problem, install the updated anav.dll file (372 KB).

OK!  Below is the URL to download the updated file:

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
