AutoCAD/AutoCad 2002
Expert: Bob - 12/9/2008
QuestionI have downloaded AutoCad 2009 trial version to check out differences. All my 2002 Cad drawings had text of City Blueprint. What has occurred was my 2002 drawing files were converted to the Roman text, without the usual note in Cad open file in new program, as it did from 2000 to 2002. I have self taught myself starting with AutoCAD 12, upgraded to 13 and 14, then skipped to 2002. I am a part
time user of this for my own use, mostly designing structures. When going into my set font, I can not locate the City Blueprint font any longer. My question is how do I go and change back to this font? Do I need to reload 2002? Cad is a part time operation for me, do not use it everyday. If you can offer any solutions it will be most
appreciated. Thank you.
AnswerHi --
I just have a minute -- but ALL your trouble is from being self taught, doing it intuitively, and not reading up on changes. In the 90's that was cool, but Autodesk got itself together -- they are no longer arrogant, and the vast majority of what they add is either good, or at least benign (unlike R13)
Some of your terms are a little hard for me to get, but I think I know.
Fonts may be stored in a different place in 2009 than 2002, due to Windows compliance pressure from Microsoft.
GO TO OPTIONS -- FIND FONT FILE LOCATION THERE (sorry, cant stop to open Acad and get exact names, but poke a minute and you will find it)
Your 2002 drawings were not converted -- 2009 cant use a font it cant find. If you did not save them in 2009, they would be exactly the same as before.
Did you uninstall 2002? NO reason to do so. If not, just copy the font into the proper folder for 2009 === 30 seconds, no sweat. If you got rid of 2002, it may or may not re-install properly with 2009 present, but you might be able to find the fonts on the CD if it wont.
Your main mistake is assuming that 2009 had the font and that you did not have to add it -- as far as I can tell.
Write back if I am wrong, and I can research later for you.
