AutoCAD/Object appearing and can't select or delete it

Question
I'm currently using AutoCAD 2007. The problem I have is when I zoom extents (to check I haven't got any objects where they shouldn't be - to keep the drawing tidy), on a regular basis an entity or object appears in the far extents of the drawing, it looks like a line - I can't delete it or even select it and when I zoom in to it, its gone from view?!  Do you know what it is and how I can get rid of it? I think it is from copying and pasting from other drawings, but the drawings have so much info in them, it would take so long to work out which bit was causing the problem.  Oh, I've manage to work out this 'object' is on one layer (created by me, i.e. not defpoints or layer 0).  Hope this actually make sense to you!

Answer
Jamie:
Thaw and turn on all layers
Type ERASE. Then ALL. Then R (for remove) and do a regular selection window - not crossing, and remove all your good stuff from the selection.  If there is a block with an insertion point out in space it will be removed.  If that happens, you will have to redefine the block or blocks with insertion points and objects within that are more reasonable and reinsert them.

If this doesn't work for you, keep the dialog going until we solve the problem.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
