AutoCAD/dwg file size

Question
I brought in a building drawing that was created in either vector works or powercad and saved as a dwg file by another party. The file is enormous, and every time I try to copy something from that file or any file that has had building inserted into it it increases the file size of the new drawing and takes a really long time to insert (15-20 min. I have purged everything there is to purge, exploded everything on the drawing an filtered for every layer on the list. What else can I do to get rid of what ever is clogging up the file?

Answer
Open the big drawing.
Use "OVERKILL" (an EXPRESS TOOL) to make sure there are not any lines or other objects drawn over the top of each other.  Then purge again.  After that, if it's still too big, try using WBLOCK to write the objects to a new drawing file.  There might be some hidden proxy objects in the drawing that you can't see or select.

Let me know how it goes.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
