About Bob
Expertise
I am good at getting Architects and Interior Designers who are intimidated by Autocad, ADT, etc. to feel comfortable, get things done. PLEASE GIVE ME: 1- some background on you and your skills, and what field you are working in, so I can reply at your level and dont give architecture answers to an engineer 2- the reason you want to do what you are asking, so I will know I am helping you to get to a goal (maybe I have a better way to suggest) 3- the release of AutoCAD you are using 4- how much AutoCAD training you have taken THAT WAY -- your question will be easy to answer more clearly. Thanks, BOB

Experience
Interior Design and Space Planning. Autodesk U. 2000 and 2001.

Question
I recently uninstalled acad14 on my computer and then tried to reinstall it.  got the same error message as someone else asking the same question... c:\windows\system32\autoecec.nt.  The system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications..... close to terminate the application.  I get this when i try to lauch the install.  I own a licenced copy of autocad and have sucessfully installed it on my portable computer etc.  Any sugestions....

Answer
Hi--

I am going to presume that you uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times to make sure.  You left out telling me whether the laptop is also XP, which is relevant.

I am not the programming or installation expert -- but I never see any Autodesk product not install on XP, so I am tempted to suggest something wrong on your end
--- some other software that "ate" part of the R14, such as spywear or virus programs, or ???

I try to guide people to finding their own answers, when I don't know -- it is better learning for them, and allows me to respond, and start you out, rather than passing the question and leaving you unhelped.

Let's face it: it's not shocking that software from 1997 may have problems on a current OS --- I am going to suggest you look through the AutoCAD Discussion Groups
http://discussion.autodesk.com/index2.jspa?categoryID=8

When I put __  r14 xp __ into the search box, there were 128 results -- I suggest you do that, read as many as you need to find your clue.

Good luck,

BOB
