Question
I own AutoCad LT 2006 and was given AutoCad ADT 3.3. I know that Lt cannot do 3D, not including this, is LT a better over all version to learn?  I do not do much 3D. I have been using Sketch Up for that.  Any suggestions would be helpful.

Answer
Hey Jon,

ADT 3.3 is an old version of Autocad Architecture (that's what they call it now).  It's well worth learning and will do so much more than even the latest LT, it's not even funny.

It mainly depends on what you're using the software for.  If you're working for an architect, the ADT is a great program to learn.  Most architects have upgraded well beyond that version but, the basics are still good to learn.

If you're drawing anything else that doesn't require any 3D, the LT 2006 will do you fine and it's also a lot cheaper to keep current.

Here's a few things to look out for..  Autodesk pretty much makes it impossible for someone to just "give" someone else a license.  Their EULA is pretty much cut in stone about that.  You might have issues trying to register the product.

On the LT 2006 side of things, that version is currently heading for retirement and will go into the Legacy program come late January.  If it's registered to you, you might consider upgrading to 2009 before that happens.  It's a little pricey but, much better than waiting until it goes into Legacy.  In fact, I'm not positive that you can even upgrade it once LT is retired.  I know you can with other Autodesk products but, might not be possible with LT.  Contact your local reseller and ask them.

Good luck!
