About Bob
Expertise
I am good at getting Architects and Interior Designers who are intimidated by Autocad, ADT, etc. to feel comfortable, get things done. PLEASE GIVE ME: 1- some background on you and your skills, and what field you are working in, so I can reply at your level and dont give architecture answers to an engineer 2- the reason you want to do what you are asking, so I will know I am helping you to get to a goal (maybe I have a better way to suggest) 3- the release of AutoCAD you are using 4- how much AutoCAD training you have taken THAT WAY -- your question will be easy to answer more clearly. Thanks, BOB

Experience
Interior Design and Space Planning. Autodesk U. 2000 and 2001.

AutoCAD - Learning Auto cad

Expert: Bob - 9/12/2008

Question
I am taking an auto cad 101 class and I am so overwhelmed at this point and the other students are much younger . I am slowly learning the commands however I do not understsnd how to read the design measurements in order to draw the design using auto cad. What would be the best way for me to begin to understand and interpret the dimensions.

Answer
Hi -- this is not really an AutoCAD question-- I cant explain dimensioning here, especially when you left out telling me your background, and the field you want to work in.

Sorry, someone has failed you. One should not be taking a class in drawing something one does not understand. You should have taken a drafting class first, or at MINIMUM read a book that explains drawing and graphic standards.

Dimensions on a drawn object are the same thing, whether drawn by hand, or with AutoCAD. This is extremely basic -- whether young or old, you wont learn AutoCAD well if you dont understand exactly what the applicable drawing (house, machine part, or ??) should contain, since you wont be able to focus on the AutoCAD.

Talk to your teachers, maybe get a tutor or a drafting book -- that is my advice (Or maybe drop the class and take it again later),
NO ONE learns AutoCAD well until they use it for real drawings after school, or in school design projects..
