About Bob
Expertise
I am good at getting Architects and Interior Designers who are intimidated by Autocad, ADT, etc. to feel comfortable, get things done. PLEASE GIVE ME: 1- some background on you and your skills, and what field you are working in, so I can reply at your level and dont give architecture answers to an engineer 2- the reason you want to do what you are asking, so I will know I am helping you to get to a goal (maybe I have a better way to suggest) 3- the release of AutoCAD you are using 4- how much AutoCAD training you have taken THAT WAY -- your question will be easy to answer more clearly. Thanks, BOB

Experience
Interior Design and Space Planning. Autodesk U. 2000 and 2001.

AutoCAD - Roofing Software

Expert: Bob - 9/10/2008

Question
i am searching for a good roofing structural (timber) add-on package for AutoCAD capable of extracting BOM and reasnable.

Answer
Hi ---

You dont give the release of AutoCAD you have, thus I cant be specific as to what will work for you. Obviously, and old AutoCAD may not work a new add-on. You also say "reasonable" --- to me, that is like, large, small, fast, slow -- not an amount. I cant guess what you have in mind to spend.

When I put __ autocad roof__ into Google, I get a number of hits from software makers, some quite well known and reputable, like Cadopolis.
Just do that, and see which one you would like to try.  I would then put the name of that software into Google and look for articles and user reviews on it, to help me make up my mind

I personally dont do roofs frequently -- but I work in AutoCAD Architecture or Revit, which are already 3D, and thus do not use software like you have in mind, but I would do what I suggested in the 2nd paragraph.

BOB
