AutoCAD/Slow Zoom while in Layout Model Space
Expert: Bill DeShawn - 1/15/2009
QuestionBill, when using C3D LDC 2008, I have been experiencing very slow pan and zoom functionality while working within model space on a paper space tab. However, if I execute the VPMAX command, panning and zooming is not a problem. Additionally, when running standard C3D 2008 or even LDD 2004, I also do not have the problem. Your insight into a possible cause and/or resolution would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Dave
AnswerDave:
I checked around and autodesk had nothing on it. But an Augi newsgroup did. One way to workaround might be to unlock the viewport and use the VPMAX/VPMIN button to access model space instead of double-clicking in the viewport. If that works, use that a workaround until you try what this found worked for him:
dcc says: I really struggled with this for two weeks. I also noticed that when I browsed to folders on the server that had over a thousand files, I always got the flashlight for a few seconds. (About the same amount of time each zoom took in AutoCAD.) So, I hired a guy from my local pc store to come out and take a look. We spent about four hours going through every setting that we could think of on the server and workstations. We noticed that one of the pcs was actually much faster than the others, AutoCAD and file browsing. He noticed that this particular pc had several additional settings in a registry key that is for TCPIP. He also remembered a program to optimize network connection settings. The file is available at SpeedGuide.net.
http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php We ran it on the server and all workstations.. Everything is great. It seemed the main difference was MTU packet size being set to 1500. Everything is super fast right now and working great!
I hope this works for you.
