AutoCAD - AutoCAD 2010 problem

Expert: Paul Jordan - 10/26/2009

Question
Hi,
Not sure you can help me with this problem, but I've been to every site looking for answers.
I am a desktop support technician and recently installed AC 2010 on a Vista 32bit machine. (Fully compatible machine according to Autocad specifications)  I had multiple problems just with the installation, and after with printing.
With those issues corrected, now I'm faced with a problem I cannot seem to find a answer for.
The user, when opening files or saving files, either local or network has a tendency to lockup Autocad.  He will get the "Program not responding", then after 30 secs. it will either open the file or save it.
Also, when opening AC for the first time in the morning, it will always as him to use a "retrieved" file, saying the program did not close correctly the last time.
I have been all thru Autodesk/Autocad's website and seen others with the same problem, unfortunately, there is never a answer posted...hmm.
I have tried everything I could find for possible answers with no results.
Any help in this matter, or if you could refer me to someone who may know, would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Lisa,

The best advice I can give you is to do a clean uninstall of the Autocad software.  You can do a search on Autocad clean uninstall and it should take you to an autodesk site which details the exact registry entries you need to delete to make sure it's a clean machine when you go to install the product again.

If you have any problems with an installation, that seems to be the best place to start.  I always used to try and diagnose the problem but, once I realized how many variables can be wrong in an installation, I always recommend reinstalling on a clean system.

Hope that helps,

Paul
