AutoCAD - autocad architecture 2010 cui

Expert: Scott Cook - 10/5/2009

Question
Our office is about to deploy AutoCAD Architecture 2010. We have custom menus that we have successfully deployed on one machine. Is there a way to package the cui containing all our customization within the network package. I can not believe we would have to go to every station and do this individually. Is a macro or script we could put within the network package?

Answer
The setup for your corporate menu is separate from the autocad install process. The good news is that you should be able to put the needed files from the one workstation that you have working onto the network somewhere, and have all the workstations access everything from a common menu folder structure on the network drive. This is a common step and I highly recommend you do that if you haven't already.
You can take it a step further, and direct your plotters and plot styles folders onto the network. This helps standardize output on all the workstations as well.

As far as automating the process, it's helpful to have a setup menu program or lisp routine to do the work of adding the required folders to the search path and whatever else is required for your menu. If your menu is simple it may not be much work to do this step manually, but if you are setting up a lot of workstations it is helpful to automate this process as much as possible. If you have a setup_menu program you can direct your users to it and they can install the menu themselves, too! Of course, this is something you would need to write to accompany your menu.
