AutoCAD/stretching

Question
I am trying to get back into AutoCad. In the past I used to stretch an object drawn by dimensioning it and then changing the dimension and the object would stretch(shrink).
I just can't seem to find out how to do that in v2010.

thank you

Answer
Hi Michael,

I suspect that your being able to stretch an item by changing its dimension was done in a vertical product. Stretching is done by using grips, or by creating a crossing window. Let's start with the grips method. If you select an object or group of objects and then click into the grip, you can pull the cursor in any direction and enter a distance. This works best if you are going in a straight line!

The other method is to use a crossing window and bring it from the right to the left around the item to be stretched. If you pick up extra objects they can be removed by holding down the shift key and reselecting the items to be removed. Once you have your selection set you can click on a base point and then pull the mouse out in the angle you want and enter a distance, or enter coordinates: @4,3 etc.

After you have tried this a couple times you'll be off and running.

Hope that helps,
Shauna
