AutoCAD - Autocad 2007 open type fonts
Expert: Bob - 11/3/2009
Question Hi Bob
I read your answer to installing a True type font to be seen in Acad 2007, but is it possible to get Acad to see an open type font?
Thanks, John
Answer Hi John-- I am about how to draw in AutoCAD. I can't really reply on every issue that an old release may or may not handle, and I can't really comment on outside fonts, add-on programs, etc, except by looking them up for you. I stick to what is on the AutoCAD disc and how to use that.
And nicely, as I researched it, I see that there is more than one category of open type font - you likely have one in mind (a logo or ??) and did not say which. See the third hit below.
Thus the best my brief research tells me is "Maybe"
All I could do was use Google (respectfully, so could you) --OPEN TYPE FONT AUTOCAD 2007
Some of the hits were:
The CAD applications AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit both support system (Windows) OpenType fonts based on TrueType outlines. OpenType fonts using the Postscript outline definitions or other codepages than ANSI are not supported in AutoCAD nor Revit (they are not listed in the font list).

Issue
You want to know why an OpenType font installed on your system is not available in AutoCADŽ or AutoCADŽ-based applications.
Solution
Only TrueType fonts or OpenType fonts that use TrueType outlines (not PostScript outlines) can be used in AutoCADŽ.
To determine if your OpenType font contains PostScript outlines, select the Font file, and then click Open.

Sorry, if this does not help -- If you want to use a font called "Joe", I would have Googled ---JOE FONT AUTOCAD 2007 -- and perhaps gotten a more definitive answer for you. May I suggest you try that.
There are also "similar" fonts by various designers that may subsitute -- Or if it's a logo, you might bring in an image, and possibly draw over it.
Does this help?
BOB
