Question
QUESTION: Dear sir,

I'm using the above software for 2 yrs now and recently have a problem that seriously interrupting my work flow.

Whenever Im existing from editing any block (refclose),
AutoCAD will do a "Scanning the drawing" (in AutoCAD's status bar). The scanning will take ard 10 sec.

I have done a search on internet for my problem, someone suggesting to turn off the system variable - showlayerusage. Ive tried it but to no avail.

Thus, could you pls help me to solve the above problem.

Your advice is greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.

ANSWER: Hello Iskandar,

Is this problem only happening on one drawing that you're working in or is it all the drawings you try to modify a block in?

Try creating a new drawing and inserting your blocks, then editing them in the new drawing.

Depending on the size of the drawing that's giving you problems or how many of the blocks are in the drawing, 10 seconds might not be that long a wait.  If you have several dozen instances of the block in a drawing, it will modify each instance of the block and that takes a little time.  If the blocks have attributes attached or are dynamic blocks, that's just more information that Autocad has to process before it can complete the task.

Hope that helps,

Paul

QUESTION: Hi again Paul,

It happens to all drawing. As long i modify a block, even the simple one, the scanning will run.

10 secs wait for every block edited is very slow, when previously it close instantaneously when i did refclose. Not to mention, my dwgs are full of block.
At this moment, I have to explode all blocks just to save time. Though, I believe, it will give me more headache when I do editing or revision the dwgs later.

If you have any idea what is happening, pls advice.

Thanks and regards

Answer
What changes have you made to the program?  You mention "when previously" it was much faster.  Something has changed in the program itself to make this happen.

One of the fastest solutions would be to do a complete clean uninstall, then install it again.  That will clear everything up and set it back to the original settings.

We can spend hours trying to go through the setvars alone and still not come up with a fix.  I'd recommend just doing a clean uninstall (google clean uninstall autocad) and starting from there.
