AutoCAD/Block Data extraction within defined area

Question
hi,

I work for a company tha provides furniture for schools and we design all the "room" layouts in detail.  I have just completed a libary of blocks which all contain manufacturing information and would like to use the data extraction routine to gather this information.

However, selecting each block/component from each room (when there can be 100's) is time consuming and we need to split it down into individual rooms.

So the question is, is it possible to define a unique area within a drawing with a name and then any block/object placed within that area can have data extacted from it.  So the information is kept with the defined area name too.

Thank you for any assistance

Answer
The only way I can think of to do this is to add a room number attribute to your blocks and include that in your extract.  You can make them so they aren't always visible, unless you want them to be any number of ways.

You'd need to come up with some ways of entering, checking, and mass-editing them as needed.
