AutoCAD/tool palette

Question
QUESTION: Hello,
I took an items from the tool palette and modified it (with edit block in-place command). Now would I like to get this edited item back in my tool palette. How do I do this?

ANSWER: Hello Micha,

Click on the item, then click on it again and drag it to your tool palette.  The trick is to NOT click on one of the blue grips.  Click on some of the linework and drag it that way.  You might have to drag it to a new palette that you've created instead of one of the ones that come with your version on Autocad.  It's advisable to create your own palettes with custom work so that when a service pack comes out for you to install, it doesn't overwrite your standard tool palette, deleting all your custom icons..

Hope that helps,

Paul

QUESTION: Hi Paul,

Does this work as well for Architecture 2009? I tried what you said, but as soon as I hit the tool palette, I get a circle with a line through it (not allowed). Any other way of doing it?

Answer
Micha,

It sounds like you're trying to modify the pallet that comes with Autocad Architecture.  Create a new pallet (just like the tabs you have in that one for things like design, windows, doors) by right clicking on the tabs area of that tool palette and click on new palette.  You can rename that new palette by clicking on the tab and typing a new name.  Once you have the new palette up, you should be able to drag the new part to it.

If you have one of your other palettes active, just drag over and hover over your new palette and that one will open up, then drag your part into it.

Hope that helps,

Paul
