AutoCAD/AutoCad 2008 Font Names
Expert: Bob - 3/3/2009
QuestionQUESTION: I am trying to find the actual name of a font used in AutoCad 2008. It is a Standard style font. In the "Font Name' drop down list it is represented as "ceb_hd.shx". The only manual we have available to use is the Release 14 manual and it lists some but not all and not this one.The help files within the program are not helpful for this either.
ANSWER: Hi --
I know you must have a reason, but I am hard pressed to think of a need to know a formal name for a font. (maybe you are assigned to make a list for company standards, or ???)
In addition, I do not find this font in my fonts folder for 2008 or 2009, nor does the font name you give GOOGLE successfully, as well as not appearing in a search of font websites. Thus, it might be one that someone has created or renamed.
I notice that you fail to give your experience level, your field, etc., as asked in my profile-- makes it very hard for me. In addition, your reference to a manual is the only one I have read or heard of in MANY years. (It was determined long ago that manuals, written by pro writers, not users, were a waste, and Autodesk cut out printing them.) One, of course, should have a BOOK, not a manual, available for looking up AutoCAD problems, but yours is likely not going to be there, either.
Perhaps someone out there has heard of the font, so I suggest that if you need to, post the question on the AutoCAD Forum for 2008. _______

If there is some reason that I haven't thought of to have a more formal name for a font, please write back and enlighten me. Sorry, this is my best help.

QUESTION: I apologize for leaving out the skill level. I do not actually use this program. I need to know the name because we are in the process of updating our company's logo and the owner wants to use this font. The designer does not use AutoCad and we are looking for a way to get her the font. The owner routinely uses the program in conjunction with a CNC router. However neither one of us is sure how to export this font in a format that can be opened by the logo company. Would you be able to assist us with that? I do know basic import/export functions with windows and copy and paste. I was able to make a file of the alphabet in this font and print it out but again I don't know how to get it to the designer in a format she can utilize.
Thank you for you reply and I look forward to your answer.
Best Regard,
Julie

Not to be rude --- and meant to be helpful -- you didn't read and follow this, nor did you read and follow the "skill level" request, making it hard to work with you. It should seem obvious from what I wrote that a goal of finding "the real name" of the font is not likely to work.
I am not an expert on which other programs accept which fonts -- but the first thing I would have done is copy the font from the fonts folder and email it to the designer. If they can use shx fonts in the program they have, they can use this one, I would think.
But this is NOT an AutoCAD question, just an experientially intelligent surmise.
MAYBE your question should have been "where does AutoCAD 2008 store fonts, so I can email one out?" They do not need to "open the font". Just do a Windows search for ceb_hd.shx on the computer which has AutoCAD.
I would be suspicious of the other designer, if she did not say simply, "email me the font". Finding the name seems to be BS to me, once the abbreviation does not come up in Google.
