AutoCAD/WCS issues

Question

Hello Bob,

I'm a junior drafter and I was given an AutoCAD drawing in which the WCS is rotated 90 degrees. As in, X points up, and Y points to the left. If I try to adjust it to be in the standard orientation, the WCS changes to UCS. Typing "UCS, world" reorients the WCS up and to the left. How can I reset the WCS to the default position (without copying and pasting into a new drawing)? It seems I can only change it to UCS, which is NOT what I'm looking for.

Thanks,
Kurtis

Answer
Hi --

If this doesn't do it -- I will try reaching my super-guru friend.

In the case of "a messed up drawing from someone else" --- or of pretty much any AutoCAD mystery -- my suggestion is to try to fix it for five minutes or so, then to do it over.

There is something odd -- and none of your or my business, that the other guy did. Maybe the bad cold I have makes my sleuthing poor today, but I am wondering why you didn't just  start a new drawing (over which you have complete control).

Once you find one land mine in a drawing, don't be surprised if there are others. My feeling is that the more I can insulate myself from that, the better.

Write back if this doesn't do it for you.
