AutoCAD/Fonts

Question
QUESTION: Hi there,
I got a brand new computer, so I installed AutoCAD Architecture 2008 and 2010 on it. I have been using Arial Narrow font in all my drawings, multiline text and dimstyle text. Now, when I open a file all text is on romans font and a size bigger than it used to be. I tried to put it back on Arial Narrow and the right text height, it does not work.
If I open my drawing from  my supervisor's computer, the text appears just how I want it,
like original. Is it my new Computer or the software?
Thanks.

What version of Windows are you using?
XP?  Vista?  64-bit?   32-bit?

QUESTION: I have Windows Xp Professional 2002 Version.
And it is 32 bit

Answer
OK, then.  Go into Windows Explorer, browse to C:\WINDOWS\FONTS and look for Arial Narrow (ArialN.TTF).  Do you find it?  If not, the font is not installed on your system.  If you find it, it may be corrupt.  See if you can use that font in a DOC or RTF file using WORDPAD.  If you can't, then the font file needs to be replaced.

Since the font seems to work on other workstations viewing the same DWG file, I would copy the ArialN.TTF file from their computer and paste it into C:\WINDOWS\FONTS on your system and have it reinstall the font.  Remember to exit AutoCAD while doing that and then restart AutoCAD after the font is reinstalled.

Let me know what you find out.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
