Expert: Bob - 9/14/2009
QuestionHi
I am running ADT2006. On my main PC, it is working fine. But when i installed the same on my laptop, got two errors. First was missing ADT.cui- toolbars, for which i found the solution on the forumn. but now I cannot use the keyboard shortcuts even simple commands for Zoom and Pan, etc. How can I fix it. Commands seem to work fine with Mouse. But for now finishing my work on PC using laptop for presentation. but if any last min edits, gives me a headache using mouse when you are used to Keyboard inputs.

A -- I would have told you, when you had the first problem, to do a repair installation, which should have kept the 2nd problem from happening. I suggest you do that now. (control panel >> add/remove programs>> ADT2006 You will be prompted to choose a repair install, and to insert the disc.
There is no way that a good installation would have caused those toolbars to be missing --- unless you installed with an AutoCAD profile, and did not notice that you have 2 icons, one for plain ACAD (thus no ADT toolbars), one for ADT. On old releases, there was a box to check if you wanted both.
You also may have gotten some settings changed in OPTIONS when you did the first fix -- or on older releases, ADT, especially when crashing, tended to result in "mysterious" settings changes.
Thus, you could review your settings in OPTIONS, checking and unchecking some of the boxes to see the result.
B-- The alternative is that you have some old customization, a different OS on the laptop, etc --- you didnt tell me enough context for me to guess. The fact that you are having one problem after fixing another indicates either a bad fix to the first problem, or (more likely, to me), some kind of interference, such as customization gone corrupted, another program, etc.
These are the typical suggestions, barring more info from you. If you still have trouble, write back, please.
C-- For after your project:
Sorry, as an Instructor, I go NUTS over people typing Z ENTER or P ENTER, etc, when the mouse wheel is much faster, since 1999, when AutoCAD 2000 came out. For years I have panned much less on medium/longer distances --- just zoom out with the wheel, place the cursor over the new point, zoom in. I promise you that its faster, even for the quickest keyboard user, because one wheel spin cant be slower than 2 keystrokes and dragging. Ancient users have converted the wheel to some other use, which I think is always an error.
