AutoCAD - autocad 2004 drawing not opening

Expert: Paul Jordan - 9/19/2009

Question
hi
i received an autocad 2004 format drawing on my email. i opened it from a friends computer with autocad 2008 and worked perfectly.
\next day i am trying to open the same file again, downloaded it from the email again, opened it with autocad 2008, but it says that "drawing file is not valid"

any suggestions? this darwing is verryyy important

Answer
Hi Marie,

The first thing I would do is try to re-download the file and try it again.  Next I would ask your friend to open it again and save it for you.

Usually the "drawing file is not valid" message means the file is corrupted.  Make sure the .dwg is on the end of the file as well.  Something as simple as that could be a problem.

If your friend can open it, I'd definitely go that route and have them save it for you in 2007 and 2004 format.

Hope that helps.

Paul
