AutoCAD/.ctb file translation to newer versions

Question
Hello Bill-
Bounce back and forth from older versions to newer versions - typically because we don't fully understand how to translate from old to new sometimes.  Right now really need to understand how to take old plot styles (.ctb files) and get the newer versions to be able to use those.  How do I go about doing this? (oh am using 2011 right now)

Answer
April:  I'm not sure what it is that makes you think they won't work.  There is one possibility, and that is that you might be starting drawings with a 2011 template that uses stb files for "named plot styles".  If that's the case and you want to change to color-dependant plot styles, you can do that with the CONVERTPSTYLES command.  Then the ctb files will show up in your "Pen Assignments" window.

Let me know whether or not this has helped.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
