AutoCAD/Text is Subsitituted for Simplex when Regen
Expert: J. B. Borge - 5/5/2010
QuestionQUESTION: I use AutoCAD 2010 everyday for work. All of a sudden the program started substituting the font simplex in, when the drawing is regenerated. There doesn't seem to be anyway to change it back to my font. If I close the program completely out and then reopen it the font will be correct, but the first time the drawing regenerates everything changes back to simplex. I have tried restarting my computer, but that didn't work either. It even prints it in simplex.
Please help - Thank you.
ANSWER: Hi Hillary, my apologies for the delay. Typically autocad replaces fonts when it can not find the font being used in your drawing. Simplex.shx is typically the alternate font.
Ensure the fonts you use in your firm is in your support directory. Check under 'Options' command, Files tab/Support File Search Path (C:\program files\autocad xxxx\fonts).
Hope this helps, let me know!

QUESTION: Not a problem, thanks for getting back to me :)
The font is in the right folder. The weird thing is, this doesn't happen all time. For instance, the other week I used AutoCAD on Monday and Tuesday - everything worked fine, all fonts appeared correctly. On Wednesday I fire up the program and it can't find my text. Thursday the same issue, but on Friday it's working again?! - Its driving me crazy, because on the days it decides not to recognize the font I can't print up any of my work - My boss is all about having things look the way he likes it.
ANSWER: ...is this happening on the same drawing? That's kinda odd. At one point, i was having problems w/ True Type fonts but only when publishing my drawings in dwf's. From then on, i've only used *.shx for my text style which are native font files for Autocad. & that pretty much addressed the problem.
You can try & play with that & see if it's a stable approach. Let me know.

QUESTION: Thank you so much for taking the time to help me.
The font that I am using (or should I say trying to use) is architext.shx. And the issue doesn't necessarily happen to the same dwg. When the issue is occurring, it doesn't matter what dwg I open, the font won't load. I have ruled out it being a problem with a specific dwg, because when I send the file to someone else in my office, they can open it and everything will load correctly. I am wondering if it is a glich with just my AutoCAD. Have you ever heard of this happening before?
AnswerHappy friday Hillary, i tried to do more research on this issue & came out empty. The regen is definitely not the culprit. Autocad is not finding the font correctly. Is it possible that your normal profile is switching to a different profile in between drawings? Also, is your Autocad up to date on all of the service packs? Contact your I.T. if you haven't yet for the updates & see if that'll even address the problem. Other than that, i'm all out of ideas...but pls let me know if any improvements or you find an alternate solution.
Have a good weekend!
