AutoCAD/AutoCAD to PDF plotting
Expert: Bob - 6/4/2010
QuestionI use AutoCAD version 2009. I am in the engineering field and I need to be able to send pdf. formatted documents to clients. I've been using AutoCAD for approx. 6 years.
My question involves sending files between my clients and I. When I send an AutoCAD file via PDF format, the recipient receives it and can look at it electronically perfectly fine. But when they go to plot it, the dark lines become darker, and the lighter lines become even lighter, some to the point of disappearing.
What could the problem be?
Thank you for your help!
AnswerHi John --

As your subject says, creating a pdf is NOT sending the AutoCAD file, but an plot that is electronic, not via paper and ink. You are "sending a pdf of my file" - I am making the distinction because plot styles and plotter settings seem to be getting in the way.
Do ALL recipients have the problem, or just some? Have you had a pdf plotted locally to see the result? I am not expert on settings for plotting pdfs. Sorry, today I don't have but a second, so I can't research, but I wanted to get your started on your own investigation.
My intuition says that since a pdf is more or less an image, that your drawing or plot style might have more precise info than the pdf can render, so your darks and lights go wack.
If you go to the AutoCAD print and plot group, you can probably find the answer.
I hope this gets you started. I might have more time on the weekend or Monday to help you research it.
