AutoCAD/setting drawing file location

Question
Hello Shawn,
I have used ACAD since the 1980's, but am fairly new to ACAD 2000. I want to set up the environment in AutoCad 2000 to save my drawings in a different location than C:\program files\ACAD2000 which is the default location. In the Tools\Options\files I find many other environment variables but have not been successful in changing my default drawing file location. Thank you in advance for your help.

Answer
Hi, Bob.  BTW, my name is Bill.  My last name is DeShawn.  :-)

For the first folder to open when you open AutoCAD, you need to right click on the shortcut that you use to start AutoCAD, scroll down to "Properties" and change "Start in" to show the path to the folder you want to open to start your search for the drawing you want to open.  So, if your projects are in the C:\PROJECTS folder, then you need to write C:\PROJECTS where it says "Start in" in the shortcut properties dialog.

There is another system variable called "REMEMBERFOLDERS".  I turn that variable off for me and I like it that way.  Play with that to see whether you want it on or off.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
