I need to know how to add a font. My company uses Frutiger Roman 55 but this one is not available in AutoCAD. I have researched this and found many recommendation for adding but all are difficult to follow, they make too many assumptions that you know what and where to copy the file. I would like, need, love to to get, a simple, dummies for, step by step explaination of where to find the font, what to do, what to name the file and various folders it has to be in, and where to find each folder/file mentioned. Based on the forums I have been to lately this is a common question with no common answer.
AnswerHi-- I am home sick, today, so I am going to reply from memory. This SHOULD be in HELP
This is scary, but really easy-- your distraction is that you probably saw advice for various releases, and the default location has changed, or some people make up their own location for fonts.
BARRING SOMETHING STRANGE IN YOUR INSTALLATION OR COMPUTER
Tools> Options -- look on the first tab, and you will see a location for fonts ( I will call it FONTS)
Open the folder which OPTIONS tells you is the default location for fonts and minimize AutoCAD
Be sure you have downloaded the font from the Internet, have it on disc from a co-worker, etc, and you know where it is. Leave that folder open
Drag or copy/paste the font into folder FONTS.
THAT'S IT!! (except you may have to create a textstyle)
Write back and tell me if that worked -- and why not if it didnt, and I should be better tomorrow.

PS-- AutoCAD 2008 books are old now, so you could probably buy one cheap, and have it for reference, save waiting and searching for help.
