AutoCAD/Mtext printing
Expert: Bill DeShawn - 2/1/2011
QuestionQUESTION: in autocad 2010 when I use mtext or leaders they don't show in paper space or print.
ANSWER: Tarek:
While in the Model Tab, check to see what layer the MTEXT resides on. Then go into the layout, activate the model space viewport and in the LAYER Properties Manager dialog while in the active viewport, the Layer Properties Manager will tell you if the layer is frozen in the current viewport. You'll find that in the "VP Freeze" column. If the layer is frozen in the viewport it will display a tiny snowflake next to the rectangle in the corresponding row. you can change it with a single click.
If that isn't the problem, then, check to see if possibly you had "background mask" selected when you created the text. If so, make sure the TREEDEPTH system variable is set to 3020. That will assure that the text and mask maintain the proper draw order in relationship with each other.
Let me know how it goes.

QUESTION: Hi Mr. DeShawn, my layer wasn't frozen and the TREEDEPTH system was set to 3020 when I checked it, so I don't know what else it can me. I open the file on another computer and it does the same thing. can it be my video card? If so how do I check if I have the update one?
Thanks
AnswerI think I should be able to figure it out if you send me the file. Tell me what version you are working with, Go to my website:

and look for me email icon and click on it for my email address, send me a message and attach the drawing. I'll have a look at it here. But before you do, try running RECOVER to open the drawing just to make sure the drawing doesn't contain any errors that are preventing the text to display correctly. If the text is in an XREF file, be sure to send the referenced file, too.
