AutoCAD/autocad text command

Question
Sir,
Why does when I give text command the text appears vertical (normally it comes horizontal)

Answer
Well to begin, let's make sure that the current UCS's East Side is set to the right of the screen.  Draw a line (pick a point# @10<0.  It should come out horizontal so that the starting point of the line is to the left and the endpoint of the line is on the right.  If that's not what you're seeing, then let me know immediately.
Assuming the UCS check is correct, then it's probably a problem with the text style.  The text style can #but doesn't have to be) created in such a way that the text will always be a particular orientation, one of which could be vertical.  Type _TEXTSTYLE to the the name of the current text style.  Then type _STYLE to start the text style dialog.  Select the current text style on the left, and look under "Effects" to see if there is a check mark next to "Vertical".  If there is, uncheck it and click on "Apply" and "Close."

If you have a lot of text under this style definition, you might want to use the RENAME command and rename the style to something like SAM_VERT.  And NEVER EVER use the "Standard" dimension style.  Always save your text styles to some other name that are consistent to what your engineering or architectural and drafting team uses, (and they should not ever use "Standard").

Let me know how this turns out for you, and if you need more help, count on me.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
