is I have a mac. I love my computer and can't see changing or having two
computers. can you tell what I can do about running CAD on a mac?

Thank you

Answer
Hi -- Being an Interior Designer as well, I am going to write to you as I would talk to my students, insisting on the best. So, dont be offended, this not only how to learn, but how to satisfy a talented and successful boss (they dont have time for correcting you on stuff you should already know):
1-- spelling errors look unprofessional. "a interior design student"
2-- the name of the program is AutoCAD -- CAD refers to the entire spectrum of computer aided drafting/design programs. Referring to AutoCAD as "cad" is common, but uneducated sounding.
To be taken as a professional, use correct terms at all times --- when you dont, it causes confusion and people discount you.
3-- You fail to mention if the Mac is a very new high-powered version, which is important for me to know to reply.
4-- Loving the computer is fine. but it is a personal, not a professional consideration. If you want to be an Interior Designer and use a Mac, go to a school which teaches ArchiCAD, a program that is strong in certain regions.
5-- And finally, YES, AutoCAD will run on a high powered Mac using one of the programs that enables Windows software to work on a Mac-- but it takes a lot of the computing power to do this, from what I have read. See Mac websites for some of the programs.
BUT --- since you also failed to tell me which AutoCAD based programs are in your curriculum, I can only guess.
Mostly, I use AutoCAD Architecture. Some schools teach VIZ or MAX --- these 3D programs will run like molasses or not at all, on a moderate computer. especially a moderate Mac with conversion software. Again, ArchiCAD works on a Mac, if that program is taught in your area.
You could type >AUTOCAD MAC> into Google and find articles.

If you want to be an Interior Design pro, you will do what you have to do to get there. Good luck, and truly, heed my words about being scrupulous in using the right terms and giving complete information. This is a very complex industry with a lot of designers wanting jobs. The ones who talk like pros get the best jobs.
