Question
When I try to open a file from the desktop with AutoCAD 2007, it takes a long time to not responds and then restarts the computer.  What am I doing wrong?  This is happening on a fresh install of Windows XP.

Thank you in advance for you input.

Answer
Hi --
Unfortunately, you left out all the relevant clues. so I have to take a lot of guesses.

I would tend not to blame AutoCAD

If the computer has limited resources and many programs are running.
Is "a file from the desktop" one file, or all?
I would hope you mean from a SHORTCUT on the desktop, as large files stored on the desktop eat into memory.
Is the file on your computer, or a server?
If the file is large with many xrefs, many blocks, many solids. or is corrupt, or needs purging.
If you have 3rd party apps for AutoCAD or a lot of customization. (most old customization should have been updated or deleted when you went to 2007)
And so on ----

My basic guess is that the computer cant handle opening AutoCAD AND that file at the same time.

If the drawing is simple, with no xrefs, and the computer is very powerful, I would start to look for an AutoCAD installation problem.

Please write back, with full information.  But open the file after opening AutoCAD, and purge it, first.
