AutoCAD/Which AutoCAD program would be best
Expert: Bob - 10/14/2006
QuestionHi,
I would like to know which AutoCAD program would be the best for my use in my business. We do installation of Solar PV panel systems. Most of the installations have been done on rooftops but we also have done ground mount systems. At present, I am doing the mechanical drawings by hand but I would like to begin using a computer program for these designs. I would like your opinion on a program that would be cost efficient and easy to use. I need something that I can do 3D layouts of the buildings and the surrounding ground contour. Thank you for your time. Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
AnswerHi -- you can do 2D drafting very well in AutoCAD LT for 900 bucks.
As for >>>I need something that I can do 3D layouts of the buildings and the surrounding ground contour>>> -- you are talking a program that costs many thousands and a long learning curve, except, perhaps, with Revit, which is not similar to drafting. It is hard for me to see someone who is still hand drafting being that flexible, but I can't judge, as you give no background on yourself.
I suggest you read the info, watch videos online, about all the Autodesk products. Autodesk. com, obviously. The more complicated ones require a lot of training and learnign, but even AutoCAD is best with training, so you don't invent bad habits.
It would seem you need an architectural program, not a mechanical (and I think your product is architectural, not mechanical - they called drafting "mechanical drawing" in 1960 when I took it in summer school.
That is the best I can say with the info you provide.
Study the situation and write back if you like.
