Question
I am researching AutoCad programs to use immediately for drawings for a house I am planning to build; and, down the road, to use in my hobby of machining. What program would you recommend for someone with average computer skills? Is the full blown program overkill? What advantages/disadvantages does AutoDesk offer over other programs? What about the ArtCam program? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank-you

Answer
___to use in my hobby of machining--
machining what-- you probably need Inventor or Solidworks-- complete;y different software than building trades nowadays
___What advantages/disadvantages does AutoDesk offer over other programs?--- This is an entire magazine article or some length: I cant write it just for you.  There are MANY articles published and online.
___What about the ArtCam program? --NEVER heard of it
___I am researching AutoCad programs to use immediately for drawings for a house I am planning to build--- For ONE house, you could buy a program at Best Buy, one of the "S---- Up Your Own House" things. Notice I am Interior Designer, so I believe VERY strongly in working with a professional who can give you a better house, and whose fee will more than pay itself in savings and resale, not to mention livability for you. Learn from someone like that -- the best designs require lots of client input, and perhaps do more on your own next time, is my advice.  I should get used to it, but I feel like the Dentist being asked  where to get tools to take out one's own tooth.
__Last --Professional programs really are not learned well without instruction, except by the true Wiz type. They cost a few thousand bucks.

I am good at helping Architects and Interior Designers who are intimidated by Autocad, ADT, etc. to feel comfortable, get things done. If you are in another field, I will do what I can for you. PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW MY INSTRUCTIONS TO QUESTIONER-- MOST DON'T FOLLOW THEM, AND IT MAKES IT VERY HARD TO ANSWER WELL-- THANKS
