Question
Hi,
I have a question about copy a viewport. I want to copy a viewport with objects (objects are located in model space) from one drawing to an other. Is it possible to do that?
Thank you,
Zina

Answer
Here is a thread from a forum that talks about that in detail:

Just copy and paste to your browser URL window and you'll be there.

A viewport is just a window to what you have in model space.  One guy had it right.  SAVEAS your drawing and then take out what you don't want.  It's the model space objects that is the real design.  The window which is given the name "viewport" in paper space is only there for you to see the part of the model you want to see and the way you want to see it.  If you copy the viewport, then you have to also copy the model.  Then you have to paste them both in your new drawing.  Then you have to tell your viewport to display the model space object, because it will probably be shut off when you paste it in place.  In my opinion, it isn't worth it.  It's just so much easier to SAVEAS or copy and paste the model and recreate the viewports.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
